MapRiddle (map-riddle.com) is a geography game where players guess what a map shows. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how you can delete it.

Who is responsible

The service is operated by the owner of MapRiddle. For questions and requests, contact vakho.nakashidze@gmail.com.

What we collect without an account

You can play without an account, or continue as a guest with a random name such as "Curious Penguin 42". A guest name is picked at random, is not unique and is not linked to you. In both cases we store:

a randomly generated player identifier in a cookie (mr_player), so your rounds and scores belong together;
the random guest name, if you chose to continue as a guest;
game data: which maps you played, your guesses, scores, hints used and timing;
your language choice in a cookie (locale).

What we collect with an account

If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture URL from the provider, and we store the provider's account identifier and the tokens needed for sign-in. You choose a username that other players can see. Your anonymous play history is attached to the account the first time you sign in.

AI judging of answers

The text of your guess and information about the puzzle are sent to Anthropic's Claude model to be scored. No personal data (name, email) is sent with it. Results are cached so the same guess always receives the same score.

Cookies

We use only strictly necessary cookies: mr_player (player identifier), locale (language), an authentication session cookie after sign-in, and an admin cookie used only by the site operator. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

Service providers

Data is processed by Vercel (hosting and server logs), Supabase (database) and Anthropic (answer judging). Each processes data only on our instructions. We do not sell data or use it for advertising.

Retention

Account data is kept for as long as the account exists. Anonymous play data is kept for game statistics and may be pruned periodically. Server logs are retained briefly by the hosting provider.

Deleting your data

Sign in, open your account page (map-riddle.com/account) and press "Delete account". This permanently removes your account, the Google link, your username and the play history attached to it.

Guests: open map-riddle.com/account and press "Forget me on this device". This deletes the guest name, the games played in this browser and the cookie.

If you can no longer sign in, email vakho.nakashidze@gmail.com from the same address and we will delete the data within 30 days.
